Our history:
Over 55 Skills At Work was founded as a non-profit organization in 1986 with a mission to help older adults (55+), many of whom were impacted by age discrimination, health concerns, or economic downturns, find stability in their lives through work. Through our associates program, we have helped thousands of older adults become financially independent and live more fulfilling lives by providing them with the training, support, and resources needed to navigate the labor force and connect with clients who need their skills.
The Associates Program:
Whether you are a handyman, housekeeper, or driver, there is a place for you at Over 55 Skills At Work. Here is how the program works:
- Be over 55 and share with us your skills.
- Once you have completed the associate intake and orientation, we will utilize our network of clients (developed over 40+ years) to assign you work orders.
- We handle marketing, administration, and customer service, so you can focus on your work, not paperwork or the stress of finding clients on your own!

Handyman:
Our handymen associates come from all walks of life, from former painters employed by school boards or general contractors with decades of construction experience.
Housekeeping:
Our housekeeping associates perform a wide range of residential and commercial cleaning tasks, including general cleaning, trash removal, or downsizing.
Yardwork:
Common yardwork duties our associates perform include grass mowing, gardening, yard waste disposal, and tree removal.
Drivers:
Our driving associates are fully licensed and insured. Whether you need to go to a doctor’s appointment or go grocery shopping, we are here for you.
Companionship & pet sitting:
Our associates offer companionship and pet sitting services. All of our associates have undergone police background checks and are vetted by out team, so you can rest assured that you (or your pets) are in good hands!
